Physical examinations and other health checks are done on a regular basis for all students at Japanese public schools. If your child enters school at the beginning of the school year in April, he or she will receive all the necessary exams at school free of charge. However, if a child enters at some other point of the school year, it is necessary to visit the office of a doctor affiliated with the school for a basic health check at parents' expense. This may not be necessary if parents can provide a current health card from another school or international school within Japan.
If your child is enrolled in the Japanese national health insurance program, please provide a copy of the insurance card to the school to be used in case of emergency. If you have some other form of insurance, such as a foreign insurance policy, please provide that information to the school as well.
